July to October is the humpback whale migration season in Mauritius, when whales can sometimes be spotted along our coast. The season may start slightly earlier or later depending on the year. Whales are generally more difficult to find than dolphins and are often located further offshore. The likelihood of a sighting is approximately 50 – 60%, depending on conditions.

You may book a trip that includes both dolphin and whale searching. Whale searching is subject to confirmation by the skipper on the day of the excursion, based on sea conditions and recent sightings. While the skipper can advise on the likelihood of finding whales, sightings can never be guaranteed.

If conditions or recent sightings indicate that a whale search is unlikely to be successful, the excursion will still proceed as a dolphin trip, provided that sea conditions are suitable.

If a whale search is undertaken, the whale trip rate applies regardless of whether whales are successfully sighted.

Please note that swimming with whales is illegal in Mauritius, except for authorised scientific research or media activities that have obtained the necessary approval from the authorities.

We do not operate dedicated sperm whale trips. As this species faces a range of conservation challenges, we have chosen not to offer such excursions in order to support responsible and sustainable marine tourism.
